upgrade 318 or get a 360

In addition if you did this on an LA engine depending on the head casting you used; you more than likely lost power due to the larger combustion chamber of the 360 heads you would have lowered the compression of the already low compression 318 so the larger valves wouldn't have done any good...
caveat: that is with a stock head...if the 360 head had been milled then that is a different story.

my crank moves in an out too...way to much in fact..but i drive it anyways (when it blows i planned on a 360 or a 400bb i found)
electric fan gets rid of that annoying clutch fan sound...plus my clutch fan locked up on me...and it frees up the motor a hair...one less thing for it to turn..many choices for fans..mines off a oldsmobile cutlass v6....best ones are from jeeps, and v6 thunderbirds(there huge)
cons...none imo...get a quality high amp relay...carry an extra in case it burns out...

And thats what one guy told me to do is just drive it and not worry till it gets really bad but the reason Im worrying about it now is Im about to make a crosscountry trip from alabama to washington state so I want to make sure my truck is ready.
As for getting rid of the computer and getting a carburetor. I understand you can get more power with a carb but do the advantages outway the cons? I mean automobile companys went to Fuel injection for a reason I assume. The only things I can think of a carb is it may be harder to start after it sits awhile and possibly lower mpg.
Ill keep the electric fan in mind but I dont think Ill do it anytime soon if at all.
Thanks for the all the replies and I really appreciate all the help I get here.

Is $10k our price ceiling here? Or a couple hundred? You can get a lot of motor for $10k. I was assuming a tighter budget, since one of the initial options was rebuilding a 318 with 250+ thousand miles on it. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DCC-4510594/?rtype=10

The hemi you have linked too would be nice though, but how would a swap be? I would imagine its not as simple as a 360 swap
