83 Charging problem

I'm sure it's not the battery. When we start the truck and pull off the terminals the truck should run off the alternator but it kills. And what is the rectifier?

Hmm not really sure. But your alternator creates AC but you cant store AC so the 4way rectifier converts that AC to DC.

i guess all there is left to test is the wiring. could try checking the resistance between the wires on the VR and alternator.

Have you checked the engine to frame ground? The case of the alternator must be grounded to work.

Well, it turned out that it was the VR all along. The new one that I had gotten was apparently DOA. Changed it again today and it runs like a champ again. I appreciate all the help

Scrubbing the part of the firewall with a wire brush where the VR attaches is also a great idea, I had that trip me up before also.
