Yea I'm regretting my decision greatly right now. I already pulled that piece from the other carb, befre that the float couldn't stop the gas coming in and it was flowing gas everywhere. They are about identical on the inside when we took it apart to adjust the float so I don't see why the screws aren't doing anything.

could have bought one off rock auto for about the same price plus shipping. i also did a quick google and found a couple of places in Florida that seem to be selling carbs for the same prices

I could not find any of these when I googled an entire week away looking up prices. Is the old one rebuildable? There were 2 gas leaks on the throttle linkage side and 1 gas leak on the opposite site. Th throttle linkage could be shaken up and down pretty far. Do you think the new one I already payed for is salvagable or sell it and start from scratch?

Ok wolfie I ran across a forum where a guy is having the same problem as me with the idle mixture screws. I'm not sure of what some of it means like what an idle circuit signal is and how do I fix it. How do I test if it is pulling fuel from the main jet? How likely is it that I just have the idle set too high? I apologize if I am asking some dumb common sense questions, I don't know as much as I would like.

i guess you could try adjusting your curb idle to see if you can get the engine rpm low enough that the mixture screws on the front work.

That's what I was going for but I found a combination that works for now. I screwed the mixture screws in all the way and dropped the idle more. It doesn't bog down off the line but does a little going from second gear into third. It seems pretty smooth but I'm afraid I'm wasting fuel from th alternative source the fuel is coming from.

This may e a longshot - but I recently replaced the qld quadrajet on my RV with an Edlebrock. Edlebrok has videos on their website for carb setup and then adjustments are very similar. May want to watch these and see if they help you. Carters were good carbs, but like the QJ, are not currently in production, so support is limited if existent. There may be a hot rod forum somewhere - some old guys like me that grew up in the 50's and 60's still like running carbs.

I'm going to have to look somewhere, just went out in my truck and it still bogged down then jumped and felt like it was standoffish when driving.
