Default New Member, lots of problems

Hello all, new to the forum and have some issues with my truck. I was given it back in late 2008, and I have been slowly trying to find time to work on it here and there. It is a 1990 D150, long wheel base.
When I first drove it around, I noticed a rough idle, as well as a rough ride at all driving speeds. Checked the plugs/wires to make sure they were attached in the correct firing order and they were.
I dropped the transmission pan to change the filter and didnt notice very much metal shavings in there, but there was some. Fluid was completely changed as well. (2008)
I dropped the oil pan as well (pain in the rear) and it was surprisingly not gunked up, but I cleaned it up and put it back in place. (no leaks noticed) (2008). If anyone has any input, would be greatly appreciated.
I periodically would drive it to work (about 15 miles) whenever the weather was cooler, since the a/c would blow hot air or just air, not cool air. Well today, I decided I'm finally off of work and have time to tinker around. Decided to check the refrigerant level, it reads 0. Attached new can of refrigerant and tried to add some, but it wouldn't take and the compressor would not spin. The compressor is not locked up; I can spin it by hand. Could it be the schrader valve is too far and the house/gauge I'm using is not reaching? Thanks for any help. Sorry if I seemed to just ramble on.

Welcome! I'm a noob also. Read this thread, it may help with the rough running motor.

With the truck running, turn on the A/C. Do you hear a fairly loud 'click'? That would be the clutch engaging. If not check for a blown fuse or bad electrical connection at the compressor.
