leaky leak
i need someone who could point me on how to repair an exhaust leak, on the manifold specifically. it's starting to smell real nasty. and i think it needs a replacement the soonest. it's for my pop's 85 pickup. he wants a new part by the way.
you have to get it done immediately, because that smell is Carbon monoxide and it is lethal. 85 rams aren't that hard to find parts. browse through Auto Parts Discount
I have an 88 dodge ram and i replaced the manifolds when i took off the emissions because there is a hole in the back of each manifold, so i replaced it with hedders and it did the trick, i bought a kit from summit that was dual exhaust, it is the hedders, all the piping and two boss turbo mufflers, it made my truck sound really nice and it was only $209, the only thing was i had to weld it all together myself.
Carbon monoxide is odorless, but exhaust fumes in general stink and contain the CO.
If you put headers on a truck that had the air pump, be sure to plug the 8 little holes under each exhaust port on the heads to avoid little exhaust leaks.
Also be aware that you may need to get a new style mini starter, and your oil filter may be surrounded by primary tubes. Good for helping cold startups, but it'll cook the oil more.

I didn't need a smaller starter, and i made sure i had my hedders wrapped before i put them on. It is not cheap stuff, but it will keep the heat from your engine going out of your exhaust and not staying under your hood. If you buy hedder wrap, one 50ft, 2in wide roll will cover one hedder. so make sure you get 2 rolls. Other than that, i would remove all emissions if it is legal to do in your state, it is in mine, and it will give you a little more horse power by not having that extra pulley on your motor.

I am not exacly the worlds greatest welder, but it looks allright, and there arent any leaks in it, so thats good enough for me, the set is custom for your truck, and has everything you need, the only thing i changed was instead of having the 90degree angle to the side of the truck, i bought two turndowns and just had the exhause point towards the ground right before the axel. it makes it a little louder, but it sounds great, i wouldn't recommend doing it with a ramcharger, but with a ram it is fine.
