Default Help with Kickdown adjustment

Hi all
I think I am posting this in the right spot now. I am tired of having no kickdown in my 1986 w150 318. It is annoying not to have kickdown when hauling a cattle trailer on the highway. I was wondering if anyone knew how to adjust the kickdown linkage on the 727. I had someone press the gas pedal to the floor while I was under and I noticed that the arm that goes into the transmission does not push all the way back. Should this go all the way at full throttle?
Thanks
Gerry

I usually just play with it till I feel it's right. That's my two cents. Honestly every vehicle and person is different. Adjust it till it's where you like.

Thanks I guess it will take some trial and error to get it right. Is it supposed to kick down at half throttle or more?

Personally, I have mine set to 2/3 throttle.

i recently adjusted mine .. if take the "slack" out of it it will shift further into the power band. And the further out it is the sooner it will shift and you will be dealing with shifting to soon to the top and basically robs you of some pulling power. So, there should be a retaining clip on it that holds it into place. remove that and (for the lack of a better way to describe it) push the cable back towards the tranny. re-assemble. drive it. if it shifts or wants wait longer to than you would like (because ultimately, it will bug you and nobody else) pull it back apart and slide it out again. Little adjustments will prove more useful than major ones. Hope this helps, and i will check back later

i am pretty sure his is different than yours. on the older trucks you metal rods that connect the throttle to the kick down leaver instead of a cable. it is a lot more simpler to adjust.

OOPS thought it was a "universal design" .. my father in-law has a '51 Chevy and I (we) did the same thing to it as i did to mine. But thanks for giving me some new knowledge lol
