Default Request for Guidance on Removing Dodge Hood Emblem

I am prepping my truck for painting and before busting up the hood emblem, I was hoping to get some guidance on its proper removal. I cannot see under where it is attached, but can feel one plastic pin in the center. Are there three pins and is the emblem attached like the side emblems, pins for positioning and double sided tape or adhesive for attaching? Can I remove the front one with a plastic putty knife? Or, anyone have a better suggestion? Thanks!

If there are no 'nuts' behind it and it is stuck on with tape you can heat it with a hair dryer to soften the glue and it should come off. One of my Power Ram emblems was lifting in the center so I heated the ends and if came off nicely. Cleaned the glue off with charcoal lighter fluid, cleaned the area with polishing compound. After removing the tape from the emblem I used ATV Black to reinstall. It looks very fresh with the clean paint underneath and the the ATV Black holds stronger than the double sided tape. Have actually done this on many vehicles in the past.

i am 100% sure that there is no nuts or 2 sided tape holding them on. as far as i can tell there is just 2 pins on the emblem that go through a very tight hole.

I have seen them attached on other classic vehicles with round washer type clips, my '70 Buick GS had emblems fastened like that. I carefully removed them with a small flat head screw driver. Could you use a mirror or any way to see the backside?

i don't think there is a clip on the back but there might be. i have pried mine out a bit and was able to push it back in and it stayed tight.

I recently took one from the junkyard and it most definately is 3 pin. One behind each D and one behind the E. Specifically behind the straight uprights on those letters. They are tapered pins that just pry off. No glue or anything and no lock nuts behind it. I used a flat screwdriver but one of those small pry bars would be best to preserve the hood. Pull it evenly so you don't break it BUT if you do the double sided tape or silicone can put it back on no problem.

Thanks everyone! Will heat it up and slip a plastic knife in between the emblem and the hood.

Good luck. I'm prepping my truck for paint right now too. I have a lot of decrepit bondo to keep up with. And a big dent under the hood ornament. Lol. Make sure to show us pictures when you are done. What are you painting it with? I used a sprayer last time and alkyd enamel. I plan on using a foam roller and rustoleum this time. I painted a black stripe in rustoleum on my truck at the same time I painted it, and it held up 100% better than the rest of the truck.

I am also going the Rustoleum route. I am not sure whether I will foam brush or foam roll it. Less bubbles with the brush that the roller. I did a test run on the top edge of the bed and it looked better than I thought with a 50/50 Rustoleum to mineral spirits mix.

Its the first paint job for the truck in 30 years. I have brushed or sanded and primed the little rust spots on the body. I will have the windshield removed and finish killing the rust under the roof's rain gutter and have a new windshield installed after I am finished painting. I have used POR 15 on some spots, putty in the holes in the bed and I have one dent to fill and might have to have an autobody shop pound out a little issue on the driver's door.

I have new door handles and rear tail lights to put in afterwards. I found a company that sells the tailgate decal. Hope it turns out. Its my first time for painting an entire vehicle. I am going from white to black.

What primer are you using on the bare metal? Parts of my truck are galvanized and not sure what the best primer for that would be.
