I had a right axle u-joint failure that destroyed the ears on that axle. Where are the best deals on replacement parts? I am specifically looking for the right axle, both u-joints, and all the seals.

 

Do you simply want stock replacements or better quality "off-road" type parts?

Stock lasted 23 years so that would be fine to use again but rock auto doesn't list my axle. Mine is about 18" long and has 30 splines. The first one listed at Randy's ring & pinion sounds like mine but is kind of expensive. The dealer is going thru paper catalogs to try and find that axle and the seals I need.

 

I found at Randy's Ring Pinion the Yukon factory replacement type:

You are right I couldn't find them for the D44 on Rock Auto, Advanced, Autozone, or napa

 

I remeasured my axle and it is 17.8". I am going to give the dealer today to try and find the correct axle and see what they want for it.

If anyone has to pull the inner drivers side axle (inboard of the CAD) you need a special tool or you can make one like I did. I welded a spare 5/8" six point deep well socket on to a 3' piece of of 1/2' pipe. Works great.

 

I talked to Randy's and found out my axle is actually a 17.1" axle. You have to measure axles from the end of the splines to the center of the u-joint hole. Learn something new everyday.

 

i just ordered the tool , and the seals for my Dana 44 from quad 4x4 This tool will do both sides without damaging the seals. Out of curisoity whats the diameter of the stock dana 44 axle. I ask becuase orelly sold me a seal and my axle shaft would ot fit through it.

a d44 front axle shaft is like 1.31 inches. Are you replacing the inner axle seals?

 

Yes I am replacing the inner seals. Also new brakes, rotors, bearings, races, and Ujoints

 

Just be careful removing the carrier to not mix up the caps, races, and shims from side to side. Be certain to properly torque everything to spec.

Something else to think about is installing outer axle tube seals which will keep water, mud, debris out of the axle tube. These are an aftermarket part you won't find at an autoparts store:

It might not be a bad idea to replace your ball joints if your going to have it that far apart as well. Don't know the overall condition of your truck but you have it all apart...just a thought.
