Default Slant 6 to 360

I have a 79' dodge d100 4x4 that has a slant six in it. We just puller a 360 out of a 2wd truck. From a couple other posts that a saw it looked like the 360 should bolt into the slant 6 tranny. I just was curious because i have a tranny and transfer case in another truck but if it would bolt up the the slant 6 tranny it would save a bunch of time.

I am pretty sure the bell housing on the slant six is different than the one for a v8. I also thought I should point out that since your truck is 4x4 you have a w100 and not a d100

I disagree with wolfie. I think it's a direct swap.

have you seen where the starter is on a slant six? if the truck is standard you could find a new bell housing but if it is auto you will most likely have to get the correct transmission

Starter looks the same to me... Also, I know for a fact that they use the same starter.

the starts are the same between pretty much every engine. it is more so where the starter is located. it sits where a cylinder head would be on a v8

Yeah you need a new bellhousing. I went through that when I pulled my slant six and went to a 318 I had laying around.
Do you have a 904 tranny or an A833? I had to cut up 2 different clutch forks so everything would work with the new bell housing on the A833.
I remember having to go with a different flywheel too, can't really remember as that was a couple years ago.
Let me know how you make out, its a pretty easy swap.

A 4 cylinder, V-6, and big block V-8 would also be different but the V-8 was mentioned specifically because that is what you asked about.
