Default 84- LA 318 performance

I'm having some issues here guys this is my first mopar build. I have a supped up dodge 318 and its running sluggish. I've got no performance coming from this motor right now. Its been rebuilt from top to bottom and today was the first day taking it out to test drive. The timing is dead on 10degreesBTDC the transmission is a 904 with a 2000stall and I have a four barrel 650 edlebrock carb on it. I'm suppose to be around 300+ HP with everthing done internaly to this motor but I dont see it. I'm thinking at this point its something to do with the carb. Can anyone assist me with some knowledge here, thank you.

i think that is a bit too much carb for such a small engine. i doubt you needed more than a 500cfm carb to run efficiently. did you disconnect and plug the vacuum advance hose when you set the timing? also does it have a mopar ignition system or does it have the lean burn system.

Sorry its a 600cfm performer on it. Its not a mopar ignition system but I do have a ignition control module with a built in rev limiter on it. I was doing some research and it looks like I need to run a vacuum hose from the intake to the driver side vacuum port. and disconnect that hose then check the timing. Idk how much of a diffence that would make

it could make a huge difference. when you stomp on the gas. you loose pretty much all vacuum so if it was set to 10*btdc with the vacuum line hooked up then it would probably drop to 0*btdc or something like that when you loose vacuum pressure. now if you where to disconnect the vacuum line and set the timing to 10* btdc that is where it stays when loose vacuum.

Got it running right now. Hooked up the vacuum and adjusted the passing gear. Damn near melted the tires right off. haha
