It is possible your BB 727 had a 208 from the factory (Post 1970 1/2) or was already swapped...

...if the BB trans had a NP203 on it ONLY a NP203 will bolt back to it.

The NP208 (and NP205, and NP241) use a different pattern to bolt to the trans adapter.

So the adapter and tail shaft have to be swapped to bolt on a xfer case other than a 203.

I undrestand it all make sence now. My truck is a 84 (i think) and trans i got for the swap was from the 80s.
