Default Pre fit spark plug wire stes...UH HUH....

Have any of you guys been baffled at the pre made (so called0 sets of plug wires in the last ten or so years? I am about to buy a new set of plug wires, plugs cap and rotor for my 4x4 and am wondering if I should just get a generic set since the last few sets that said they were specifically for the application were all way too long. BTW what is the best wire that is affordable and lasts?

if i could find a place that sold make your own wire kits i would probably go for it as long as it was not too ridiculously expensive. before even thinking about replacing wires i would usually take my digital multi meter to all the wires. anything with less than 14 ohms resistance i considered good and i would not bother replacing.

I think MSD (i think it was MSD) makes a streetfire universal set. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the hassle. It felt like you needed 3 hands and a surgical robot assistant with GI Joe Kung Fu grip to get anywhere with them. But maybe that was just me.

I have had good luck with NAPA wires, both with fit and longevity (so far).

I have made a bunch of sets for other vehicles over the many years of driving. But, seems a while ago the pre made sets don't ever fit back into the stock holders as far as routing goes. If you have stock wires and take them off, the new ones are never the same lengths. Always longer. Anyway, Mine might be fine but I am going to inspect them for problems and replace if necessary. I did find a brand new cap and rotor a guy bought new and never installed for 10 dollars so will get that anyway.

I would guess if they are, they will be standard quality and cost five times as much as a set of like Mallory, Accell, or MSD wires. I don't mind making them, and will do so now I guess since winter is coming and I don't want to get stranded in the snow. I am getting a new dizzy cap this week as well.
