Default Manual Transmission Swap

I have a 90 D250 4x4 with the factory 4 speed tranny. The truck is geared low I would estimate it to be at least a 4.10 or higher. My question is this; can you put a 5 speed from a second gen in these trucks with little to no modifications? I am just looking for that OD gear for the highway lol, 55-60 is all she wants anything over that and I have to stay pretty deep in the pedal.

Did some research looks like an nv3500 bolts right up with no mods. Just need to find one out of a dakota or 2500 as they have closer ratios.

Yep. I'm fairly certain the nv4500 (mopar version) will work without too much trouble.

I would rather go with the 4500 because its good up to 18000lbs where as the 3500 is only good up to 11000 but that will he plenty on this truck just gonna pull a tractor and horse trailer.

I would recommend the NV4500 for it's strength and long lasting durability. Plus it has a granny gear 1st.

From what Ive read they are pretty much a bolt in swap if you have an auot OD. Im in the middle of the same thing but going from a auto to an nv3500 in a 79 power wagon. Im trying to find out if the slave cylinder from the 99 will work with the 95 nv3500 trans so I can use the bolt in style master cylinder from the 99.Im also trying to figure out if my 205 passenger drop tcase will work on the 5 speed. It came off an auto OD. Everything Ive read says the tcases from the autos bolt right up to the 3500 5Speed but no one has mentioned a 205. All the threads Ive read are all using 231 and 241 tcases.

If it's the same bolt pattern, input shaft size, and spline count, it should do the trick.

Agreed. It will work. My '78 W350 with 5 gears and four wheel drive promises that.
