I own an 83 dodge ram d150 318 with carter thermoquad auto 727 TF, it has 3.23 gears, right now the previous owner has it set to shift at 4600 rpms which is a little too high for that year, cause at that rpms it seems like the transmission will free wheel and I'm not utilizing the torque of the engine, I'd like to know what the optimal shift RPM's are, or if any one has this year of pickup and what they run, I'd like to know if 4200 would be better, thank you

 

Adjust the throttle linkage properly and it should shift normally.
