Default 1990 ram alternator problem

i just bought a 1990 ram 4x4 318 tb inj. it has a band new alternator on it but still does not charge? any other things i could check or would the new alternator be faulty

i would probably blame the computer before i would blame the alternator on these trucks. have you checked to see what the voltage is on the large lug at the alternator?

I would check the grounds. Grounds are known problems in our trucks and the alternator won't work if it is not grounded properly.

problem solved it was the ecu. charging great now but i have another issue lol i'll make a new post for it later

What did you do to the ECU? Just reset it?

I think what Sniper X is asking is did you just reset the ECU or did you replace it?

replaced it ,reset would do no good if regulator is toast

Yeah, I meant did he reset the CPU before starting the truck with the new alternator in it. PLUS, I am wondering if he is getting no charge out of it as in what is he measuring the amount of charge with...and where? The way to do it is with a VOM on the battery for a pretty accurate reading, but at the gauge.
