Default Borgeson steering shaft

I was about to order one and it gave me the option to add "Borgeson 3.25" Rubber Rag Joint w/Hardware" for $15.75
Just wanted to double check that this is something I do actually need.

Also, the best price I could find on the shaft was $159 let me know if you've seen it cheaper anywhere else, thanks.

i think the big question you should be asking yourself is do you think you can get the old bolts out without snapping or grinding the heads off the bolts? the kit looks like it would come with all you need to replace that if you had to cut the bolts.

$159 is a good price. If your rag joint looks OK you can see if the bolts will come apart one at a time to tell if you need the hardware kit or not. They can be very stubborn but if you take them out one at a time and replace them before going on to the next one they will have all at least been out when you get the replacement shaft.

I don't think the bolts would be a big issue and I just had a look at it and my rag joint looks to be in good shape. So I shouldn't need that extra "kit", right?

And on second thought, I don't know if I really need to replace the shaft. Mine doesn't seem to have that much play (see vid).

Looking at the video it does seem to have quite a bit of play, didn't look as bad in person :/

If the rag disk is OK and you can get the bolts out you don't need the kit. $15.00 isn't a bad price if you do need the kit.

The Borgusion Steering shaft is a great upgrade and that is a good price. I got the rag joint install kit with mine. Since you are already taking it all apart you might as well replace it all

I don't know if anyone else bought that rag kit but I did. Love the Borgeson shaft but hated the rag joint kit they sent. The only thing that fit correctly was the disk itself. Ended up using all my old hardware. Waste of money IMO. I've seen them local for about the same price if you decide later that you need it. I probably could have gotten away without changing it.

Now thinking about it, I did reuse my old hardware, but did use the new disk. Not sure if I used the old bolts or not

I remember reading some reviews on Borgeson about staying away from the no-fit rag joints. It's amazing that a company that makes such a nice product in their steering shafts would make such a crappy rag joint.
