Default 318 stumbles when accelerating...but only when warmed up

'85 Ram, 318 2bbl, torqueflite tranny:

When cold it starts up immediately, accelerates smoothly with engine cold and on the fast idle cam. Glass smooth curb idle, cold or hot engine.

After it heats up, agter the choke drops down to curb idle, it hesistates/bogs when taking off kinda-sorta quickly from a stop sign/stop light, enough that the engine will die if I don't "tippy toe" it.

Usually I would think "accelerator pump in the carb is wearing out"; but when suddenly gunning the engine (with the torquelfite in park) it doesn't stumble. It doesn't stumble/bog with a cold or warming up engine, just when taking with a fully heated up engine.

It could still be the accelerator pump not giving enough fuel under load. Have you checked the timing and set the mixture screws?

Yes, timing and mixture are all good.

This just started up day before yesterday.

I'm thinking that the slightly richer fuel mixture, with the choke partially on, might be compensating for a borderline bad/worn accelerator pump?

The accelerator pump is inexpensive and fairly easy to replace. I would replace it to eliminate it as the problem one way or the other.

Agree. NAPA has one, in stock no less, for all of seven bucks. Gonna get it today.
