I know they stopped making the 318 LA in 91. As always I am willing to learn.
Here is some goods reading on the subject http://www.allpar.com/mopar/318.html.

You can not take what a Haynes manual says as anything more than a guide since in this case it is incorrect. Simply having fuel injection didn't make them the magnum engine design.

1992 was the first rear for the 5.2 (318) magnum and 1993 for the 5.9 (360) magnum.

The 318 is internally balanced where as the 360 is externally balanced, so on the 360, look for the harmonic balancer on the crank.

It doesn't matter if the engine is internally or externally balanced it will still have a harmonic balancer\vibration dampener on it.

Here is the pertinent Quote from the ALLPAR article you posted. It is all the way at the bottom of the article.

"Chronology of the LA series Chrysler V8 engines
(Thanks to Stephen Havens)

1992 - Magnum appears on 3.9 and 318 (5.2)
1993 - Magnum 360 (5.9) appears"

we don't need the vin. if you check summit headers that fit a 318 will also fit a 360, 340 or 273
