Default How do I find what transmission I have?

I have searched. But I don't exactly know how to phrase it. So I thought I would ask.

How do I know what transmission I have? Is there an easy way? numbers on bell housing, or id tags if they havent been taken off?

The vin decoder didn't say.

1989 D100 TBI V6 SWB Auto 3 speed

Previous owner had it rebuilt. I dunno if it was replaced with a different one or actually rebuilt.

since it is only a 3 speed it could only be a 727, 904 or 999. since you have a 3.9 i would guess you have a 999(32RH) since it is a trans commonly used behind those engines. i think you might be able to got to the dealer and find out. might be able to get a build sheet for it still. i know there is numbers on the trans but i don't know what numbers you would need to find out what trans it is.

Is there any way to tell the three apart? I can take pictures of it.

Does one have more wires than another or something?

not really. the only way to tell would be to find and decode the numbers on the trans. otherwise they all look about the same. all have the same plugs. i think the only difference between a 727 and a 904 or 999 is the length. could try measuring the trans.

The transmission pans are completely different between the 727 and 904
