Default Steering questions

Before I order the Borgeson steering shaft I want to make sure it's not the steering box that's a problem.

Basically I can turn the steering wheel back and forth quite a bit, and see the steering shaft rotate on par with the wheel. But the tire barely moves.

What I'm trying to say is the part of the shaft that I can see (from the firewall to the end of the steering box) seems to do it's job. What isn't doing it's job seems to be inside the box. Could this still be the shaft at fault?

Also on a related note, the truck makes squeaking sounds when close to full lock (not tires rubbing). I'm used to this meaning low steering fluid, but I can't find the reservoir to it. Where is it?

the reservoir is in the pump. squeaking when you get close to full lock could be cause by the belt just being a bit loose.

Are you sure you have power steering? If not, there is no reservoir. If there is, should be a couple of hoses coming out of the steering gear. Follow those to the pump (reservoir). Twist cap off.

Definitely has power steering, It'd be hard to not notice the lack of power on this truck lol.
Thanks for the info though, I'll check it out tomorrow.

Hey I had a military issue 78 D150 that had no power steering. That was one of my first upgrades. It was a PITA to steer.

Fluid was full, checked the belt and it was loose. Replaced and tightened it, steering is immensely improved.
