Default KC Light Mounting

So I got a line on a good deal on some KC lights. Does anyone have any suggestions for mounting these? I would like to mount them behind the grill if you guys have a idea or suggestion for how I would start on that. I looked about and can't seem to find a company that still makes bull bars for these trucks.

BTW, Its a 87 D100

with these truck if you want something you pretty much have to build it for yourself. my ramcharger has some lights bolted to the front bumper and they look ok. don't know if the holes were there or not from the factory since the lights were there when i bought it.

Do you happen to have any pictures? I thought about just mounting them straight to the bumper but didn't want to to look stupid (because its a 2wd).. And KC also makes a universal mount bar but I like the clean look of them mounted behind the grill. I found this picture on another forum and was looking for this look as my first choice....

the front of my ramcharger sit a bit higher than a truck which may be why they look ok. i have seen lights mounted behind the grille before and they look ok.

I assume you are using driving lights. Behind the grille is pretty slick but I think that the slats on the grille would really hamper their effectiveness. Do you have a pic of the universal one that KC makes. Are you talking about the bar on top of the roof? I think a small 2" tube above the front bumper attached with a couple of brackets would look good. An offroad shop or maybe even an exhaust shop could fab this for you.

i think it might depend on the grille. i know some people who have mounted lights behind the grille and i don't think there was too much light lost coming thought the grille. now if you are trying to get better light up front you may want to look into putting your headlights on relays. makes a noticeable difference.

I would either look for a bar or build something and in fact, that is what I am going to do to my truck next. I was looking at lights yesterday and trying to decide where and how to mount them. They work well on the bumper but only look OK there. Even with a small square stock bar easily made to bolt to the top of the bumper looks much better than directly bolted to the bumper itself. I hesitate to mount ANYTHING behind the grille for airflow and clearance reasons. But that may be because I live in the desert where it gets and stays over 100degrees every summer for a month or so.

I also like roof top bars but they effect gas mileage and can be REAL noisy down the freeway. Plus, light reflectance off the hood is a factor on roof mounted lights even with lower dishes on them.

that is why i like having a accurate aftermarket temp gauge in my truck. get to keep an eye on operating temperature of the engine. when my 81 still had the /6 rad support, part of the v8 rad was covered by the rad support and it didn't seem to run any hotter. i don't think a few lights would hurt anything unless your cooling system is not working properly. plus it think there is a bit of room to the left and right of the radiator were you could mount some lights without blocking the rad.

yeah, it is more of a phobia of mine than reality, plus that thing about the space beside the rad is cool. I'll have to look.
