Default Need some rust help.

Obviously, the roof is going. Anybody dealt with this? If so, how? How much did it run? Any and all suggestions welcome to fix this.

I've never seen roof rust that bad. I ended up opening up a hole about the size of a quarter in mine when I was doing body work on it, and that was concerning to me.

First, you need to grind everything back to clean metal, and assess what is there. There is going to be much more rust exposed once you start cleaning things up. And you do need to go the whole way back to clean metal or else it will be back again soon.

If I were you, I'd be looking for a donor cab: either to swap on, or to cut most of the roof off of, and weld on to yours.

Is your windshield seal any good? I bet its all kinds of nasty under there. Sorry to be so negative, but realistically, that cab doesn't look good.

I have no idea as to the seal. It LOOKS ok, but who knows? I agree about the cab, but finances and my semi-competent welding rule this out for now. I am not going for looks, so riveted flashing is looking like the way I may go.

Other, better options are welcome, though.

Anybody?

to fix that i think you will have to remove the glass. if you can't weld it will most likely always leak.

Well, I saw a potential donor at the junkyard today. Somebody had gotten to another one and made a convertible out of it. It looks like the windshield frame is separate from the roof panel. Has there maybe been a thread on this with pics someone could point me to?

All help appreciated.

Sure the junkyard truck wasn't an old ramcharger?

The thing is with riveting, it doesn't look like you have much to rivet to. And if you drill holes in the inner cab, that will promote more rust and leaking.

If I was in your position and had to do a low budget fix, I'd make it pretty temporary. I think i'd use one of those fiberglass resin meshes and just seal it up. Then maybe pretty it up. But I'd be aiming to fix it better when time allows. For a temporary fix, I wouldn't touch the seal. If it holds, it holds.

What are your thoughts on cab visors?

Valid points all. The fiberglass fix sounds good.

My thoughts on cab visors are that they cost $400 and I still have nothing to rivet to. Links to cheaper ones welcome!

The work so far. This is spray foam insulation and Bondo. It looks like hell, but I am far from done.

Holy crap, Reb! Where do you live? Im in the middle of Rust-burg Iowa, and I havent seen any cabs like that. I would be looking for a donor cab, as mentioned earlier. They are pretty cheap, if you find a truck that is destined for the crusher. Search Craigslist for "parting dodge".
