Default need help identifying parts

Hey guys
On my 84 318 under the hood on the drivers side, right under the hood hindge towards the back on the fender there are two module looking boxes.
3 wire connectors on each one. One is an orange/red color the other being black

Ever since I have had the truck I noticed they were leaking some kind of brown thick
I am in The process of cleaning up the wiring and cleaning up the bay, I cannot find any information on what they are. Does anyone know what I may be talking about?

Just trying to figure out if they are important and if I can take them out and get rid of the wires. They have always leaked so I'm guessing they are bad . I can get some pictures if needed I just don't have any with me and rarely get to be on the computer. The
truck does not seem to run any different if they are unplugged.

Thanks!

does your truck have a 4barrel? i think the things you are reffering to might be egr timers.

ok. this is just emission related stuff. if you don't have emission testing you could most likely just remove them. i don't know exactly what they do.

I guess we will see haha
My aftermarket intake doesn't even have an egr port so its not doing anything at the moment nonetheless
