Default Lifted Truck - Blocks have to GO!

Hey all....

Workin through gettin this ol' girl on the road, and now that I am into the mechanical, first thing is first.... lift blocks are coming out. Someone put them in back when it was still cool I guess. They did a good job, they are welded and pinned vertically, but im not taking my chance when I am towing.

That being said, I have been looking at putting in skyjacker (or equivalent??) lift springs. My goal is to get a set that will match the current front end lift so that I dont need new shocks, steering column, etc.... and it will keep it level with the rear. I took some shots of what is installed now, but Im not sure what is part of the axle and what is added. My overall height from the ROUND part of the axle to the bottom leaf is 4 inches, but it looks like 2 inches of that are part of the axle itself. The axle is a DANA-60 and the frame is 250/350 Diesel. (1993)
Is it just the 2 inch blocks that are added??? At the end of the day, I just would like to figure out what amount of lift to buy when purchasing the lift springs so that it comes out the same as it is now.
Here are the links to pictures... thanks! :

i think someone might have just stuck some tubing in there. i think real lift blocks are a solid block of steel so that they have to rust from the outside in instead rusting everywhere. you could maybe contact Jungle Jim over on RCC. he may be the best guy to ask on something like that. his kits allow you to buy lift springs in the future and lift the truck even more if you felt the need to.

Thanks... ill look into that. But it looks like the 2 inch square tubing is the only added part eh? So really a 2 inch lift is all it has... I think that makes sense...

ya. the only problem with tubing is it rusts inside and out so it weakens quicker. with how much salt they drop on the roads up here in the winter it is probably a wise idea to remove them when you can.

I agree, I dont want to take any risks with blocks in the first place, corrosion is the least of my concerns lol. Im not sure whether to go with the 2 or 2.5" lift spring though, not sure how much sag to expect... and I dont want to throw off the angle in my drive line either.

BTW, likin your new pics!

if you use something like the Jungle Jim brackets i linked to you can keep the stock springs and you should not see any sag.

thanks. i figured it was about time i changed my sig picture.

haha, ya I guess you were rockin that sig for a good many years...

Im still not sure if I want to go with the drop downs or not... they are painful to put in compared to a lift spring, and the lift springs will provide a better ride when they are done... but the price difference is what has me! Its almost 500 bucks for a set of lift springs... drop shackles aren't anywhere near that.

I guess the 3rd option is to get the add-a-leaf, which will use all of the old leaf springs with one longer spring to give it the height bump... only about 100 bucks to go that route...

i don't think newer springs would give you a better ride. i think old broke in springs would give you the best ride.

add a leaf is cheap but i don't know if you will get the 2" back.

here is a picture of Jungle Jim's brackets installed in a cummins

$310-$340 plus shipping depending on which kit you get.
