Pretty sure spontanious combustion was a factory option at the Ford house. Fortunatly, none of mine burnt to the ground... That void was filled by my 90 Isuzu Trooper. Burnt to a crisp IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PARKING LOT while they got thier gear on. When I was pulling into the parking lot, I probably could have dumped a soda on the fire to put it out, but didnt have anything handy. Total loss. Never did verify what started that, but I suspect it was related to the alarm system somebody had put on it.
Wow! talk about bad luck! Glad my 1986 Isuzu Troop was the turbo diesel version!

What did you think of that Turbo Diesel? I always wanted to drive one, but we never crossed paths. If it was a decent enough engine, might be a cool swap option. They are still fairly plentiful, and seem to run forever.

I got extremely lucky on it and bought it from a divorced couple for $250.00. It had 120K on it when I got it, and when I sold it many year later it had 287K on it and was still running as well as the day I got it. I spent a total of 1.00 on repiar items in that time other than wear stuff like tyres and brakes. And I did glow plugs for the hell of it right before I sold it but it didn't NEED them yet. I did the power up thing too where I removed a bushing from the low side of the fuel pump and did an adjustment on the low side fuel pump which added about 20 more HP. The truck ran so well I took it across the US a few times to visit my two oldest kids. It got great mileage, never under 39mpg, and s high as over 100mpg when I was on a week long hunt where we never went over 20mph.

It had great tq too, was great off road. I really suggest if you can find one in decent shape, buy it. I would buy another one in a heartbeat and do the upgraded turbo on it and the wastegate power up thing I did and it would have as much as 80 more rwhp.
