extremely annoying metallic squeak
I was just doing soms stroker research and I came accross a thread that was talking about shimming axles when a lift is applied. I noticed after I got my lift I had shims on the front axle (cant remember if there were any on the rear but I don think so) but since my axle swap I dont have them installed anymore. Is it possible my axle(s) need to be shimmed? And could that cause the squeak?
If you mean angled shims on the front because of drive shaft angle problems, then yes that can be it but probably not. I can say that I had angled shims on the front of my Rancharger due to the 8in lift and they caused more problems than they cured so I took them out and the truck was fine. That thing was so squirley with those dang shims in there.
So I jacked up my truck. Discovered the squeak. Coming from the driver side front tire. Didnt have time to pull it apart to see exactly what it was yet. My front axle squeaks too but I only have to worry about that when its in 4x4.
Also discovered Ive been driving with no rear brakes. I was jacked up and in drive the rear tires wouldnt stop (not even slow) when I applied the brakes. Thats pretty scary. Not sure what the issue is. Im gonna take it in to get them checked out. Les Schwab was the last shop to look at them. Also got my emergency brake to work somewhat. I jerry rigged it up but it came loose again or something so I need to come up with something more permanent.
