Default "Maint. Req'd" light.

My light came on after hard acceleration and is remaining so. What sets this light and how can it be turned off? Before anyone posts a friendly reminder about searchng for similar threads, I did so and nothing relevant came up. If there IS such a thread, I welcome a link to it.

i think you might need a special tool to turn it off. could try disconnecting the battery and turning the headlights on while the keys are turned to the run position.

Maintenance required lights are just meant for reminders for your egr system, there supposed to come on at around 50,000 and 125,000 miles, just to get people to take them In to the dealer, what I've seen most people do is just take the light out, or you could take it to someone who can plug it in and reset it to turn it off, I have an 89 and 91 with the lights, I've tried disconnecting the battery it turned it off, but after running it for a few minutes it turned it back on unfortunatley.

My odometer doesn't work. How can it know? Dodge demons? (I know, I know, that pun is making me groan, too...)

I found this, MIGHT apply.

Step 1. Remove 5 screws and remove the lower cover below the steering column and below the headlight switch.
Step 2. Find the blue box under the headlight switch. It measures about 3x4 inches.https://dodgeforum.com/photo.asp?...=6&apage=1
Step 3. Carefully wiggle the box offof the tang it is attached to. You will put it back when done.
Step 4. One end of the box has a large rectangular opening you should be able to see easily. I assume this is where a 9v battery would fit. Mine did not have a battery, so I began looking for a switch.https://dodgeforum.com/photo.asp?...=6&apage=1
Step 5. There is a smaller hole that allows you to see inside of the box through the battery hole. (see photo). Just inside of this hole you will see a small micro switch. The micro switch was the push button type.https://dodgeforum.com/photo.asp?...=6&apage=1
Step 6. Start the car and use a pencil or some other similar, non-conducting tool to gently press the button. Your Maint Reqd light should be out.
Step 7. Reassemble your car and count the money you saved.

Great, but the links go nowhere. Could you post the pics directly? I appreciate the help.
