about to pick up a d150 need some answers
The gauges are not accurate. You should consider installing an aftermarket gauge.
Once at operating temp and the coolant expands some will be pushed into the overflow and once cooled some will return to the cooling system.

+1 on stock gauges not being accurate. my stock gauge would not move with a 160* thermostat installed and not move that far with a 195* thermostat installed. i ended up installing a cheap $15 gauge so i could know what temp it was at.
okay thanks ill put that on my to get list. i would really like to get a rpm tach for my truck i always like to see what my rpms are at when im driving. how exacly do i install it if theres no rpm gauge to just swap wires?
and i found out its stupid one wheel peel lol how do i install lockers and were do i find them?
i know so many questions lol

RPM gauges are usually mounted to the bell housing to read something on the flexplate. Dunno what though as I do not have one.
Hey, if you need a picture of where the sending unit is on the 400, I can post up. My 76 has an aftermarket gauge.

hey yea why not it will come in handy later down the road ill most likly ask for one anyways so i can always go back to here
For a RPM gauge, you pick what you want and where you want to mount it. Then there is 4 wires to hook up on most of them. A red wire that is hot when the switch is on, white wire for lights, black wire that is a ground, and a green wire that goes to the negative side of the coil. It is not that had to do.
that brass nut-guy down there is the sending unit for the gauge

The t-stat is under the upper radiator hose, btw.
