Default Just picked up a 1980 Adventurer 150!

Hello from Albuquerque NM

225 slant six
3 speed auto
blue/cream
factory AC

She's pretty cherry. Completely stock. Needs a lot of TLC though. The rearend has 10 bolts so I think its an 8.25". The trans pan is shaped like the 46RH in my Jeep so probably A727. Feel free to school me on this truck.

It has a bunch of stuff to fix. The 3-speed fan for AC/heat is always on high. The tailgate won't open. The warm/cool slider doesn't work. Carb needs rebuilt and all the rubber under the hood needs replaced. Stuff I can handle...

but there is one problem I want to ask about. During and after the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts I am getting a rumbling, rattling sound from what sounds like the transmission area. After I get into higher revs, it subsides and smoothes out. Worse when cold. It kind of sounds like something is loose or metal to metal hitting. Any insight is highly appreciated.

As far as your tailgate, have you tried using the manual release levers?

Didn't see any manual release stuff. But got it working! Lots of WD-40 did the job. Added some rubber to keep it from rattling. Good to go.

Hit the door latches with WD-40 and they close nice now. Got the spare tire mounted in the bed too. It was just laying in the bed for steal.

Got a dinging sound underneath when going over rough road. Could be exhaust.

And the grumbling rattling sound that concerns me. To describe that sound more, when I am idling along with my foot off the throttle and I tap the throttle, it causes the noise. If I let off or get a bunch more RPMs it subsides. Lot of vibration to go with it.

I live in Tijeras so will probably see you around! PLus, I'll help you work on your truck if you help me on mine when needed! That rumbling is probably U joints. Or a bad trans mount. My truck needs a trans mount but it's a 4 speed.

Lots of vibration? Odd. How are the universal joints?

Where the latch mechanism itself is there is a little lever that you can lift up to release the tailgate.

Good you got it to work though

Thanks for the replies...I'm going under there tonight and take a good look at the driveshaft and trans mount. Before I bought her I gave the driveshaft the old hand check and didn't feel any slop.

Five boxes of parts arrived last nite. Some from Rockauto some Jegs. Got everything I need to rebuild the carb. Gasket/seal kit, brass float, choke takeoff(?). And ignition stuff. Accel coil, cables, NGK Iridium plugs, brass cap/rotor. I'll break these projects out into a couple writeups and snap some pics if anyone is interested.

Sniper X, I live near Mountain Run shopping center. Sometimes I work in my garage all day Sunday and some days after work. Let me know when you want to hook up.

Got the windows tinted yesterday at Tintmasters. 5% rear, 15% sides and wings. A must around here. My neck is redder than usual from riding around town for a few days with a tintless back window

So you live out on the North end of the Eubank area near where Juan Tabo meets it? Cool, some time we will have to hook up. Good you got the parts already!

When was the last time the tranny fluid was changed? I'd change it to see if the noise persists and you can also look for pieces of metal in the pan and the fluid.
