Transmission Leak Question
I am going to look @ a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 (360) tomorrow with a 156k.
The sellers note to me: (1 of 2)
There is a very little transmission fluid leak and it is coming from the gasket on the top of the transmission where the shifter cable comes in.
I am not a super mechanic as obviously some here so help and recommendations are very appreciated.
I tried finding a diagram to help get a better idea but could not isolate one that was clear enough.
Is this and easy or affordable fix?
There is second know issue I posted it here.. 4.10 Rear axle assembly question
Thanks ahead!

There are 2 seals. The bigger outer seal is the one that fails a lot (for me anyway). I think the nomenclature is 'shift rod seal', not sure. The parts are cheap and available, but its a true bear to replace them. I read that pulling the pan and removing the valve body is the easiest way.
I drilled a small hole in the seal and drove in a screw. Then I was able to pry and pull the seal out. Do not use any RTV on the new seal or you will never get it out this way again. I've done this job three times now and the seal won't hold for more than a year. I noticed the rod itself has a lot of lateral slop so check that. I'm at the point I'm just going to let it leak until I do a rebuild.
