4.10 Rear axle assembly question
I am going to look @ a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 (360) tomorrow with a 156k.
The sellers note to me (2 of 2):
I had to change the rear end (I changed the whole rear axle assembly) and I put the 4.10 because that is what the truck had on it. I also changed the rear drive shaft.
"The transmission shifts hard (it has always done it) and I just thought it it was because of the gears in the rear end."
Obviously I will drive it to see exactly what he is referring too. My question is if this was you what would you looking for to to corroborate or refute his "shifting hard" theory?

No. Steep gears will not make a vehicle shift harder. It will make it accelerate quicker, but it shouldn't have any effect on the actual shift.
I think you'll just have to drive it. His "hard", may be my "firm". A stiff shift can be a good or bad thing, depending on how and why it is doing it.
Your truck in question is a 2000, so it is a 2nd gen truck. Technically it should be in the 2nd gen section, but gears are gears are gears.
