1990 250ram cummings turbo diesel pushing to much power
Ok heres the thing i need help. i have a 1990 250 ram diesel. when i first got it they told me the voltage regulator keeps going out. so we grounded out a few things. Then my voltage gauge on my dash that past the red line, so i started my truck disconnected the ground so my battery was not storing the power then the dash started smoking and everything was freaking out. i fried my battery dry, need a new voltage regulator, and had a small electrical fire. I have no clue what the problem is. had already put a new battery and voltage regulator in and grounded it out. So my truck is pushing to much power and cant figure out why? Has anyone ever herd of this?
Did you use a DVOM to see how many volts you are actually putting out? Do not trust the factory gauge.
Did you install an external VR due to a failure of the factory one in the ECM?
Is it wired correctly?
Have you checked for shorted out\failed fusible links?

Be sure to check all of your conectors that there is not a wire broken in one on them. I have seen this happen a lot. When you change out like the voltage regulator the wire will touch and work right for a little while and then work itself back open. Then it will start over charging again. If your connector is like http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...ier=342383_0_0_ check the green wire.
