Question No Idle / Stalling

1987 Ram 150, 318 engine.
Hard to start (requires repeated pumping of throttle pedal), and won't idle more than a few seconds before it dies.
Runs fine on the highway, but dies whenever I slow down below 30 MPH.
Choke seems to be functioning normally, and it has plugs, cap and wires only six months old.
This just started recently, at the same time my fuel gauge quit doing anything at all. Also no warning lights come when I turn on the ignition.
Are these related?
Where to start troubleshooting would be a GOOD THING....

first check your fuse panel for any blown fuses regarding the fuel gauge issue, if none there check the resistance of the sending unit t the tank, other than that I don't know.
No idle/ stalling: check the resistance of the primary coil to see if its in the specifications, mine went bad and had a similar issue. if not that then check your fuel filter and fuel pump. Also check your fuel lines for holes or cracks, especially the rubber parts for dry rotting since the holes can be small enough for fuel to not get out but still significant enough to allow air in.
