Default Fuel Pump Recommendations

The fuel pump on my truck is starting to go out, have to bang on the bottom of the tank once every once in a while to get it to start, but it is an original fuel pump with over 250K on it. I have a week off of school at the end of march and I am planning on replacing then. I have searched on the internet quite a bit, and the general consensus is either Bosch, Al Delco, or Delphi. Bosch is a good $75 more than the others, is it worth it? I want to put in a quality part that will last, but don't want to spend unnecessary money for just a brand name. Wondering what your experiences with these brands are? Also, is there any reason to put in a fuel pressure guage (besides the fact that gauges look cool) I know that they are a good idea for diesels, but was wondering if there was any reason to get one for a gas.

in my opinion... its brand name for a reason, meaning they know how to build these things to last.... its pretty much up to you on how much you wanna spend...

fuel pressure gauge: not really important... if you wanna put one in for looks you go with your bad self... but they sell testers and mechanics have the testers if you needed to actually know for a performance problem

I would probably avoid Delco. Im sure it would be fine, it just doesn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy when I say "Delco." The other two are a coin toss as far as quality. I would likely go with the cheaper of those two.

Ok, going to see if I can revive this thread. I'm starting to think that the fuel pump issue may be deeper than I first thought. I filled up today, and got a terrible 6mpg, last tank with the same style of driving, I got 10mpg. So considering nothing changed driving wise, a 4 point drop is rather huge. On top of that my truck has recently started throwing the cel. Its giving me a couple codes, but the only relevant one is code 41, which has something to do with the generator field. If the fuel pump is controlled by the PCM, and the fuel injection is controlled by the PCM, am I possibly looking at a bad computer? If it matters I'm still running the automatic computer with my manual transmission. Or could it be that an O2 sensor failed, or maybe I just got a bad tank of gas? I will have to drive it some more to see if the bad mileage sticks. Not really sure how to go about diagnosing this

The PCM doesn't control the fuel pump, aside from via the ASD Relay (Automatic Shutdown). Might consider checking your fuel pressure with a gauge, to see if your regulator is junk or not. Possibly too high of pressure? Do you notice any excess soot or buildup in your tailpipe? Do you still have a catalytic converter? If you do, you might investigate that.

could be fuel pump accompanied by a bad 02 sensor if its telling your pcm its too lean due to a faulty sensor its gonna dump fuel resulting in loss of mileage.... like my instructor told me... pcm's are dumb any input sensor that tells it anything it believes it... so if an o2 sensor is telling it its lean then in goes a load of fuel... is it running weird at all like bogging down due to excess fuel/ not enough air?
