wish I had a picture of what your talking about so I can be on the same level as you but as of right now I have no idea what the heck your talking about bud
I need to take some photos this weekend to show you what I am talking about. There is no rod that goes through the steering column on the beast. I have a NP435 4 speed manual, and it will start in gear. The ignition switch is in front of the key switch, so when the key is turned, it also turns the ignition within the column. This is a 1986.
We found the problem, which is an exposed wire on a fuse-able link along the left fender wire. We bypassed the roached fuse-able link by installing a jumper wire with a 25 amp fuse that automatically resets itself (shuts off) if there is too much amperage going through the wire, essentially an eternal fuse.
The truck starts right up and runs well, but I screwed up the wiper on the distributor when I was trying to diagnose the problem. I am installing a new distributor this week if time permits..
Thanks again for all of your help and I can take a few photos and try to upload them if you like. Jake
PS-I think I uploaded a photo of the old girl correctly.
yeah I still want you to upload pics cuz my parts truck is a 1990 and with the np435 and it has the same exact setup as mine. my buddys parts truck is an 86 and I had him look at his and I know there is one so id appreciate the validation.
the plug in the third pic: if you follow the wiring to the switch that is bolted to the column you will find the switch I was referring to WITH the rod attached to the top of it.
you got a pic of the side of the column with the turn signal lever on it?
also I see that you have a tan interior... havnt seen many of those around other than mine and a couple guys on facebook.
the ignition switch is in the column (steering wheel needs removed) on a non tilt wheel truck, with tilt it is actuated by a rod and is the square box talked about earlier in thread.
