Default 1st gen 5.2L won't go past about 20mph help please.

It shifted into 2nd and idles just fine. Cut the cat off and it still won't move very much at all. Please give me ideas I need help. I think it's not advancing in its timing.

When I drive it, it revs up just fine and even shifted into second gear just fine. It idles great and I can floor it at an idle and it sounds like a dream. Now I have a hill at the end of my driveway and even in first gear and giving it some pretty good gas it doesn't want to pull the hill(this hill really isn't that steap). Thats why I think it might not be tranny related but I'm not sure. I already cut the cat off and that did not help. It's been sitting without being ran for a long time but it's a gorgeous truck. Ideas are what I'm looking for just possible solutions if anyone can come up with anything.

Clogged fuel filter maybe. What year? mileage? Any codes? Last time a tune up was done? Trans fluid checked(correct level)? Info info info! Drop it into first manually then see if it will climb the hill.

It takes half throttle just to get up to second gear and full throttle for about 20mph. Thank you for helping me, anything else I need to add to narrow down the problem?

Manually shift it into the next gear when the rpms reach 2500-3000. Does it slip in gear or just doesn't want to move? Also may want to check and see if the heat riser valve on the exhaust is stuck closed. It's on the passenger side exhaust manifold down the bottom.

It's an automatic with no rpm monitor. I don't beleive I can manually shift it at all. It won't move much at all even at half throttle in first gear. Full throttle in second gear gets me to about 20mph at best.

Check that one or more brakes are not stuck on. Had the same problem and ruined my transmission. Jack up the truck and be sure all wheels spin free.

Had a brain far I can manually shift it and try that. I have also checked the brakes as well.
