Default Speedometer

Just installed new speedometer cable on my 1982 D150 and checked all gearing at transmission, but cable still jumps all over till 50 mph and is 5 mph off.

Did you get the correct cable? What was it doing before?

Try lubing the speedometer head. You'll have to pop the instrument cluster out of the dash to get at it, but if it's jumping around it's probably dry and is catching as the cable spins.

Do you recommend a specific lubricant?

Something light. Don't use grease, but a light oil or a light silicone lubricant. I use 3-in-1 for mine. Doesn't take much, either. Literally just a drop or two. Any more than that and you'll just get a mess.
