1991 d150 318 tbi won't start
The fuel pump isn't running. I replaced it abut 6 months ago so it shouldn't already be bad. I disconnected the wires and one terminal has 12 volts but I don't know if that is the feed for the pump or just the gauge. Does anyone know what color wire is what for the fuel pump?
I think it was precision from Oreilly but not sure. I bought a Haynes manual that shows the black/green wire to be the power to the pump, so I can test that now. Also, I am a little confused about a 'fuel pump relay'. There are 3 relays on the left inner-fender, but I have read mixed info about what they are. the wiring diagram doesn't show a relay for the fuel pump, but the parts store lists one. Aslo, the relays on the fender 'click' if I turn the key on, unplug them, and plug them back in, so I assume the 'click' indicates they are working, whatever they are for.
Ok - the truck started. I was checking the fuel pump and discovered that it only runs maybe 1/2 a second when you turn the key on. I primed the engine (poured a little gas into the throttle body) and it started. So now I'm not sure what the problem was.
Shut it off, and let it sit for a few hours. Will it restart? If not, cycle the key on/off a few times, just enough to run the fuel pump each time. Try starting it again. Does it start?
If it does, you might be looking at a weak pump.
