Default partial removal of smog system on 1987 dodge d100 with slant 6

My plan is to keep the smog pump as it is the belt tensioner for the AC system( just replaced). I plan to crimp the metal pipe coming off the exhaust header and at the intake manifold. my question is do I need to do anything else. what about the EGR valve? Should I put a screen over the inlet and outlet of the pump? ( I don't want it to get something sucked in and cease up). Will this require carb adjustment. I assume the electronic ignition will not be effected. the system has been without a drive belt and with rusted out pipes since before I got it the truck runs good with reman carb but I think it could be better.
