Default finding prfoemance parts

hey guys i'm new here and own an 89 D100 with the 3.9 v6. I'm looking for perform partsfor it but just coming up with parts for the v8. I don't have the option of swopping for the v8 but can swap for a new v6. so I'm asking if someone can help me out with a web site for new engines / performance parts for the v6

So let me get this straight, you created this account so you could post one thing, to be a total dick, in an effort to remain anon.

Can we get an IP check?

While he's a total ***, and hopefully his regular account got banned too (as he created that one JUST to insult you) unfortunately he's got a point. There isn't a lot of aftermarket for the 3.9 because there isn't much demand for it. It's hard enough getting stuff for the V8, or rather I should say it's more expensive getting stuff for the V8 than comparable Chevy or Ford parts but then you've got an even less desired setup.

You should be able to find some things though, simple intake and exhaust mods can do wonders, as well as gearing in the rear end, then there's always the DIY turbo setup. Sorry I can't really help, I've got a couple of 360s and a 306 (bored 302), so those are what I've actually looked into.

Although you may not be finding direct fit or bolt-on components. There are lots of things you can do that are relatively easy, not overly expensive (cheaper than an engine swap) that could yield some performance gains. First I would recommend adding an intake, and a more free flowing exhaust.

Since you can't seem to find a bolt-on intake, you could try fabbing up your own. All you would need to do is take some measurements, get some aluminum tubing, determine if you need a bend (90 degree or 45) some silicone couplers, a high performance air filter, and some good clamps to hold it all together. I have to admit I am not overly familiar with the specific model you have listed, however, usually the older cars/trucks are more simplistic to do. The most difficult part of building a custom intake would be fabbing up a braket if you needed one. You would have to look, your stock air box may have one you could scavenge.

You could also improve the exhaust. Again if you were going to do the work yourself, it just requires some planning, but this is something your local muffler shop should be able to fab up for you also. Going to a larger pipe diameter would help, you could also install less restricitve catalytic converters, and a high performance muffler. Or any combonation of the above - it all depends on how much you are looking to spend.

The combination of those two things would give you the most bang for the buck, and are a good foundation for any future mods you may want to do. After all you engine is a giant air pump, so the more air you can efficiently move in and out the more power you are going to make.

hope that helps, if you have any questions let me know.

First, try http://www.SummitRacing.com
Go with a good exhaust system first. The one I'm putting on my 84 318 D150 has a Cherry Bomb glasspack, racing cat, and headers. Not only will it sound great, but will perform great too. For headers, find some for the small block V8 and cut off one of the pipes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the 3.9's a 4.7 or 5.2 with two less cylinders? It might just work, even if you had to redrill the bolt holes. As for the intake, you could possibly cut mounting brackets to fit on the heads and to fit a 4-bbl carb on top of it. Weld some tubing together to connect it all and drill the holes for the vaccum ports and bolt it right on. It would resemble the single plane manifolds that Mopar sells for the SB V8 engines. (Note the words POSSIBLY and MIGHT in all those previous sentences.) Also, remember this, what the cops and inspectors don't know, won't hurt you!
If you can't find a new V8 at a good price, try a local salvage yard. They might have something that you want for cheap, and with a little work, it could almost run like it was brand new. Ask around, who knows what you'll find.

As for you, bigredsrt10, SCREW OFF! Nobody in this forum likes a d*****bag like you. He asked an extremely simple question that didn't require your smart-*** response. Also, if you have a "new" truck, why the hell are you in the 1st gen. forum screwing it up. Go f*** up the 3rd gen. forum and leave us alone. Didn't your parents ever teach you manners?

First of all thank you guys for all the advice. My plans were to take the motor I have now and rebuild it, since it only has 150,000 miles on it and everthing else is in good shape. My goal was 300hp, after I boerd and stroke some. I didn't want the v-8, because I was looking at the idea of good hp with decent gas milage. Again thanks for the ideas, especaily the one with the shorter headers. The one question I have is can the stock block hold up to 300hp and how much did the 3.9 have in stock trim. As for the model I know it was built in November of 88' and is a single cab, long bed, and 89' model year d100. Thanks again!
