choke tips & is it worth installing a EFI in old d100?
1987 d100 custom 225 /6 90,000 miles on original engine.
This beautiful truck came into my life I am new to manual choke vehicles. So I am getting to know it.
Looking for it to be a reliable farm vehicle that starts and stops with as much ease as possible.
I am finding it difficult to reliably start and run at a low idle. It is choppy until it gets heated up and I have to ffeather the gas for a while before it idles.
Once warmed up , it tends to die when I accelerate from an idle (such as at a stop light.)
Any tips on how to operate the choke when starting, and what might be the issue with the idle issues is greatly appreciated.
Question #2
Would putting in an electronic fuel injection system make the care more reliable? What is general consensus about EFI on this make and model truck? Worth the money, or should I just learn how to finess the Choke.

EFI is certainly better for easy starts..... might be able to retrofit something from a newer truck....
Isn't the choke automatic though? Just pump the pedal once or twice, and crank the engine???? If it is manual, could always step up to a carb with auto-choke....
Sounds like the current carb is in need of cleaning......

efi would likely make it more reliable and easier to start if you are having issues. definitely sounds like there might be an issue with the carb. the choke should be heat controlled which can be a pain. they take a lot longer to fully open the choke.
if you are good with electrical i would definitely go fuel injected. if you search a lot of people generally us GM TBI parts to convert older vehicles to fuel injection. if you are not too good with wiring fitech has a pretty cheap TBI setup that should be pretty easy to install. i could see in either case possibly needing a different intake or modifying the stock intake to have a larger intake than the stock 1bbl carb.
