Auto shutdown relay
1988 Dodge Ramcharger, auto shutoff relay goes to 12 volts when key is turned on then immediately loses voltage. No fuel or spark, causing a no start condition. Any help would be appreciated.
Being stupid I left out some important information. Replaced components include the ignition switch, coil, distributor pickup, rotor button, distributor cap and wires. ASD relay and the computer. Wiring has been gone through multiple times. It acts like once the computer powers up then the ASD relay loses ground. I do have a code 11 but everything I read says this engine does not have a cam sensor. I assume it picks up #1 from the distributor? Thanks in advance.

it sounds like the systems are functioning as they should. the asd is powered for only a few seconds to prime the system then shuts off till it gets the signal needed and then the computer will ground the relay again. have you tried checking for a ground signal at the relay with a test light or multi meter while cranking?
Sorry for the delayed response, other "emergencies" arose! We finally replaced the distributor and now it fires up beautifully. However, once it starts it will surge drastically. During the surge I noticed that the relays on the driver side keep clicking. One click the it seems to rev up, next click cuts of the fuel and spark. It will repeat this cycle as long as you let it sit there and run. You cannot give it any gas or it stalls. Timing is dead on. I am thinking something is telling the computer to act this way, just not sure what input it would be looking at to cause this. ANY ideas are highly appreciated.
Thanks for all the help.
