Default 1986 spare tire mount

bought truck without spare tire mount. how was spare installed and what are suggestions to install one?

Looks like it was installed underneath the bed. OEM parts mostly discontinued. May have to resort to aftermarket if a junk yard is no help. There are a few aftermarket solutions....in bed mount, tailgate mount, etc.

i have always had mine in the bed. i don't think i have ever seen a factory under bed spare tire mount on a truck. you could get creative and make on if you wanted. it is not like it would take much to build a couple straps to hold a spare tire up between the frame rails. you could even get a newer style spare tire lift like used on newer vehicles. it just pulls the tire up like a winch.
