Advice needed on head upgrades
Hi Guys
Just got the option to purchase some 86 model swirl port heads (cast no 302) for my 84 with earlier style heads.
This seems to be a good option as I can buy these reco heads for a little more than it will cost to get my current heads rebuilt.
Question is will these later heads work with my hooker headers purchased for my year model. will they match my edelbrock manifold
is it a good idea to match the ports by tracing out the intake gaskets and die grinding to suit.
I also need to provide an 86 VIN number in before I can order these heads, my VIN number will throw an error as they will think I am ordering the wrong heads
As always, any help and advice is appreciated

they should work with the headers. heads are physically the same on the outside. main difference is the combustion chamber shape. about the only thing you might have to do if it hasn't been done already is to plug the smog port which you might have had to do anyways depending on whether you had smog heads or not.
it probably wouldn't hurt to port match. would likely help things flow better but doubt it would make a huge difference.
pretty sure all LA small block heads should interchange. some might be better designed for cars which might be why it doesn't like your vin. trucks are not generally looked at as performance vehicles.
