Default Is there a way...

Is there a way to find a build sheet without a vin? Like could I use the original owner's name with purchase location?

You would have to contact dodge for that, and if the truck isn't yours, I would expect they won't be real forthcoming with any information.......

If the dealership where it was originally purchased is still there, and you are the original buyer, or closely related..... the dealer *might* be able to come up with something. I think they are only required to keep records going back 7 years though, so, don't hold your breath.

Default I figured

Yeah, it's my dads old truck from when I was real little, it's a couple towns over and I'm thinking about buying it, but they've made alot of changes to the rig and I was looking to see how in depth it was gonna be to redo it like dad had it (with the exception of a diesel and 4wd conversion) for reference it's an '81 d350 clubcab dually

While I'm on this topic would it be better (in theory) to swap the body onto a second gen chassis or try and hunt the parts down from a first gen platform?

If you are thinking about a conversion to diesel, and four wheel drive, you would spend less money (by a good stretch) just finding a truck that already had them.....

ya you would be better off buying a first gen with a diesel and drop your cab on it or just buy one and enjoy it as is. a 2nd gen frame is completely different and will not work. i don't think there is any easy legal way you would be able to drop a first get cab on a 2nd gen frame. i have seen a 2nd gen cab on a 1st gen frame and it was just ugly but luckily it was on a pull truck so staying street legal was not needed.
