Gonna focus mainly on the front end/steering throughout the winter because its all original except the shocks which I just replaced and the coil springs were replaced.
if its a stock turbo i would replace it first. a better turbo will make a huge difference to performance and power even with stock injectors. also you got to watch EGT's a bit more carefully if you upgrade the injectors first. upgraded injectors let more fuel into the engine which results in higher EGT's which is why you got to watch EGT. a larger turbo will help keep the EGT's down.
I'm more concerned about reliability keeping things as clean as possibly than I am about spending money and getting a lot more power/torque. 3 of the injectors are leaking so just gonna get new ones and try to keep from diesel getting away as its not cheap here in PA and the factory manifolds on these aren't the best designs which is why they came up with the three piece. The factory manifolds tend to shrink putting more pressure on the bolts and manifold and most likely snapping/cracking one or the other.
Well the truck only has 117k now so im not to worried about replacing stuff atm. Rubber doesn't last forever though so I already changed the connectors on the intercooler/radiator pipes. They all had some tears in them. Yea somebody mentioned to me about getting the 3" pipes, but you're probably right its probably not worth it. I dont know if I'm gonna put a bigger turbo on it. I was just planning on injectors and the 3 piece manifold for now that way I get the increase in fuel and air at the same time this turbo seems to be just fine with me until it takes a sh*t I probably won't upgrade it.
If you are modifing it to make anymore power than stock then you should have EGT, boost, and trans temp gauges, even if you are just turning the injection pump up. A tachometer is a good idea also if you don't have one.
this is they gauge setup my friend has in his little truck. not a huge fan of it. i like the 3 in 1 gauge that his big truck has but this does the job. yes the boost gauge is in pretty much upside down but that is so you can actually see what is is doing. should have probably put trans or EGT gauge in the top hole since they have a larger gauge sweep before you are in trouble but we didn't think of that when we put it in. can't wait to see the boost gauge saying 25-30 once all the leaks on the little truck get fixed.
