Default Speedometer

1986 D100 Dodge. I've pulled my gauge cluster and replaced the headlight switch, upgraded to LED's. Replaced tail light's, backup light's , and dome light's. All lights now function. After reinstalling the gauge cluster my speedo no longer functions. I did not disconnect the speedo cable. Any idea why this would happend? Anxious to install new radio and reassemble. Thanks Kurt

it should be a mechanical cable drive on an '86. Not much room to move the cluster with it still attached, if I remember correctly.

Did the cable connector pull out just a little so it lost engagement? Handle the cable roughly? (Maybe it broke inside.) Is it still attached at the transmission end?

Hey u2slow, yes I guess I did handle it somewhat rough. All the plastic is brittle. I pulled it out far enough to changeIe bulb's. Read that the speedo connector breaks easily. I attempted to pull it off but it wouldn't budge. Still in trans. Do I pull it out at the trans and the cluster to get the cable out? Thanks for the reply

I think the end on the trans unscrews and pulls out. Can't remember how the cluster end attaches - mine are electronic now.

Pulled the cable from back of cluster. found it was separated from connector. Hooked back up several times. Now speedo bounces. Disconnect roll truck forward about ten feet. Reconnect. Cable rotates well. Comes to a point. Still bounces. Don't know if cable is supposed to have a point. Worked perfect before pulling cluster.
