My '83 Dodge W250 with 318 engine has a York Ac compressor - the mount for AC is good but has a fabricated look about it. My alternator pulley needs to come out (towards front of truck) as it is about 1/2 inch inboard and belt is not aligned . . I mention the AC mount because it prohibits me from shimming alternator mounts/ and especial alternator bracket again, because of the AC mount. My question is, can I pull pulley outward on alternator shaft to better align or does that pulley really have to sit butted up against alternator housing/bearing? Anyone know? Thanks!
hard to make suggestions without some pics to show us what is going on. somebody has likely replaced something in the past and not put something back together correctly.

Thanks Wolfie - alt changed out at some point, might be wrong, everything else is correct but what I wanted to know is can I pull alt pully forward a little on shaft without it being pushed all the way in?

On some, you can get away with that, on others, not so much, just depends on the alternator, and who made it. Sometimes the pulley is used to hold the fan, or front bearing in place.
