Default Looks like it's time for me to cab swap my truck!

I've never swapped cabs on a truck, anything I should be aware about when swapping a cab? Like do all of the Dodge D/W series pickups from 1972-1993 have interchangeable cabs, what should I do first after I got replacement cab, etc!

My 91 D150 with severe cab rust

Is that the only issue?

AC vs non AC makes a big firewall difference. Std cab auto 2wds usually have a lower profile trans tunnel.

what difference are there? as far as i know there is no change in the firewall between AC and non AC trucks. the only difference is the heater box and dash stuff that you generally need to swap over. otherwise all holes are there. you can make a 2wd cab fit a 4x4 truck. ideally a 2wd cab would be more ideal to buy since i don't think anyone sells 4x4/manual floor pans which make the 2wd a bit easier to patch if needed in the future.

most cabs should interchange but the 70's trucks had slightly different body lines. they changed the door latches sometime in the 80's. shouldn't be a big deal if you get doors with the cab or just swap the stuff off your old cab. the bulkhead connector is in a slightly different spot on the 90's trucks but should be the same size hole for 80's cabs. not so sure about 70's cab since been a while since the last time a stripped a 70's cab.

@crazzywolfie doesnt the AC cab have a huge firewall 'window' for the HVAC stuff that a non-ac doesn't?

no both have the same size hole which is where the blower motor sits. the biggest difference is where thy heater hoses go through the firewall but the hole is there on non AC trucks. it just has foam blocking it.

I believe the 70's cabs did i think that changed in 1980 when they changed the body style.
