Default Engine is flooding and won’t start

Hi my name is Emmet and I own a 1986 Dodge Ram D150 Royal SE. I bought this truck back in April and it has been running good since until it “broke down” on Sept 8th. Basically what happened was I was coming home after work one night when my truck essentially stopped. The battery was still working and the lights were still on but the engine just quit on me. And after many troubleshootings I found out that my carburetor is just dumping gas into my engine. Now I did replace the gaskets because I thought it was leaking gas (this was before I knew they were for vacuum sealing more) and obviously that didn’t fix the problem. I also replaced the spark plugs which still didn’t work.

lemme just give you the specs: it is a Holley model 2280 Carburetor on a 318 v8. The vehicle is Electric Lean Burn and has a Spark Control Computer on the left fender.

my main problem is that I don’t know how to fix the flooding problem and was wondering if someone here could help me please. I can’t find a definitive answer online anywhere. I could provide images if needed just let me know and I’ll answer any question

have you checked the gas tank to see if it is under pressure? can you see the carb dumping gas into the engine? i would likely ditch the lean burn system/carb and go for standard carb/ignition setup. also if the engine is flooding through the carb there is a good likely hood you may get some spark plugs going bad and you will likely need to change the oil to get the gas out of the crankcase.

Float or valve seat not sealing.

now I’m not sure about the pressure in the gas tank but I do know that every time I go to put gas in it and I screw off the gas cap it hisses and farts gas air at me. And i haven’t tried to see if it’s dumping gas in it but I can see it spurt gas into it when the throttle is put down. And their could be a chance that the float isn’t right or the seats aren’t sealed even if they r I don’t know how to fix that.

if the fuel system is under pressure it can force its way past the needle and seat in the carb. i would recommend not tightening the cap fully until you can check the vent line and find where it is blocked. i had the same issue with my 81 when i first got it and still have a bad vent on my elcamino. only difference is the thermoquad seems to handle the pressure better. the 81 filled the engine till it was full. only realized what was going on when i was going to swap out the carb and fuel kept coming out of the line without the truck running
